Veteran Telugu actress T.Kanakam passes away

An NTR award winner and yesteryear popular actress from the Telugu film industry, T.Kanakam has passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Vijayawada. She was aged 88 when she succumbed to prolonged sickness. The actress has been facing health related conditions since a few years. She had her last breath today.

Kanakam was born in Karagapur. At the beginning of her career, she worked as a dubbing artist for Aakashavani Balala program and she enacted a role in Nayukuralu. She became noticed after acting in the dramas like Palnati Yudham and Kurukshethram. After that she got several offers from the Telugu film industry. She acted with almost all the popular heroes of yesteryear including NTR, ANR, Krishna, Shobanbabu and other actors. She also sang folk songs for AIR (All India Radio) right from her childhood. Her famous songs include “Cheyi Cheyi kalupukora” in Raksharekha and “Bhale Dhoralaku” in Shavukaru.

She got fame and reputation by acting in a variety of roles with versatile expressions. She gathered attention slowly from the audience and pioneers of the film industry. The roles acted by her in the movies Keelugurram, Paatalabairavi, Gruha Pravesham, Raksharekha, Leta Manasulu brought her reputation. Kanakam recieved NTR award in 2004 from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The actress thanked Raavi Nancharaiah Trust for honoring her at a felicitation function. The roles of Sri Rama and Chintamani acted by her are memorable.

Recently, popular music director M.S Viswanathan also passed away. Many Prominent people condoled the expiry of T.Kanakam. May her soul rest in peace.
