Thousands of people take the holy dip in river Godavari as today is the last day of Maha Pushkaralu.
Pilgrims perform rituals to the departed at Pushkara Ghats
People have turned into large crowds at the Pushkara ghats waiting for a holy dip in river Godavari. The C M has instructed the officials in taking extra care for the safety of people as the devotees are expected in huge number today being the last day. Policemen, fire fighters and expert divers have been deployed at the ghats for the safety of the pilgrims. Officials figure out ten crore people have taken holy dip in river Godavari including both the states. Today another one crore pilgrims are expected in both the States together. Tradition rituals Pushkara jyothi and Godavari harathi will be performed today evening.
A cultural programme of traditional dance has been organised in the Arts college ground, Rajahmundry. Thousand dance artists from various places have united in Rajahmundry to perform in this dance programme. A P Chief minister is invited to view the cultural programme. A number of exhibition halls and entertainment programmes have been organised for the pilgrims .
It is believed that during pushakaralu, if a devotee takes a holy dip in the river godavari his/her sins will be washed away and can perform rituals to the departed ones. Maha pushkaralu is believed to be very sacred as it occurs once in 144 years.
The Indian Railways are running special train services to clear off the rush associated with Maha pushkaralu. Also the Andhra State Road Transport Corporation runs special buses to facilitate the pilgrims coming to the occasion.
