ID Proof not required for booking Tatkal tickets from September 1st, 2015

Indian Railways has announced that the passengers who wish to book their tickets in Tatkal quota need not show their ID proof from September 1st 2015. This decision has been taken by the Indian railways as it has plans to modify the requirements associated with the Tatkal tickets. The new Tatkal modified provision will come into effect from September 1st 2015.

Passengers can book Tatkal tickets without ID proof from September 1st

In a statement, Indian Railways officials said that there is no need of producing a copy of the Identity proof at the railway booking counter or need not mention the Identity card number while making reservation through the internet. However, there is a need to produce the original ID card of any one person intended to carry out the journey. According to the Railway officials, the system of producing a copy of ID proof is being removed to avoid the duplication of the document.

The present system led to many problems by the passengers at the time of  journey . The passengers generally have a number of Identity cards. The identity card number which they display to the TC may mismatch the ID card number recorded in the ticket verification chart. The passenger has to face difficulties and even get penalized in such situations. At present it is a must for the passenger to carry the original identity card, of which the duplicate was submitted at the time of ticket reservation. The identity card number recorded in the ticket verification chart should match the identity card number displayed at the time of  ticket inspection. The passenger may get penalized on failure to produce an identity proof.
