Popular music director M.S .Viswanathan passed away

M.S.ViswanathanManayangath Subramanian Viswanathan, shortly known as M.S.Viswanathan (88) passed away at Fortis Malar Hospital in Chennai. He had been suffering from breathing problems for the past two weeks and he was admitted in the hospital  on June 27.

Though the hospital sources said that he was recovering and was almost ready to be discharged, His health was worsened and he left his last breath at the hospital itself on Tuesday (July 14th,2015). He has four sons and three daughters.

He is popular in Tamil and Telugu film Industries and has composed songs for more than 1,700  films which are lauded as master-pieces and  stood as evergreen hits till now.The Tollywood super hit  “Jagame Maaya”(Devadas) was composed by M.S.Viswanathan .He composed music in Tamil,Telugu,Malayalam,Kannada and Hindi and for his achievement for composing classics, he was popularly known as  “Mellisai Mannar” (The King of Light Music). Jayalalitha, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu honored him with the  Title “Thirai Isai Chakravarthy”(The Emperor of Cine Music) and presented him with 60 gold coins and a new car which tells us the greatness of his music composing. In  his initial stages he worked along with  T.K.Ramamoorthy during the period of 1950-1965 which created the  “Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy Brand”  in Kollywood and tollywood. But Realising the importance of “Individual”Brand image, he later composed music  individually to many films which brings a real image to his songs.

Viswanathan solo hits include Galatta Kalyanam, Bama Vijayam, Deivamagan, Bharatha Vilas, Rickshawkarana, Moondru Dheivangal and Ulagam Sutrum Valibana. In Telugu his compositions forTenali Ramakrishna, Idhi Katha Kaadu, Maro Charitraa are considered as flawless evergreen hits. Most of his work in Telugu are related with K.Balachander, a popular Tamil Director and their pair was lauded as hit pair.

Viswanathan was a must sought after music director who scored back to back musical hits with Sivaji Ganeshan and M.G.Ramachandran. He is the only music director with a rare feat to work with four Chief Ministers N.T.Rama Rao, M.G.Ramachandran, M.Karunanidhi and JayaLalitha.

He has worked first time for the film “Jenova”(Tamil) and though its hero M.G.Ramachandran objected to him, the producers kept confidence on him and they claimed that they would sack M.G.R from the film,but not Viswanathan. This shows the talent of Viswanathan and his master-piece music. Even Musical Maestro Illayaraja is proving his talent in those days,He never missed his charm in music. Illayaraja and viswanathan worked together for the film “Mella Thiranthathu Kathavu” of which the Orchestra work is done by Illayaraja and the tunes were composed by Viswanathan.He was the only Music director to be honoured with ‘Isai Perarignar’ title, usually conferred to professional classical musicians.

He has lost his wife in 2012 and his music partner Ramamoorthy in 2013 which made him depressed. According to the trusted sources, his funeral will be done at his residence on Santhome High Road in Chennai on Wednesday (July 15th,2015). Let his soul rest in peace.
